ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE - Strike Out ALS

If any of you have been on social media lately (and I kind of hope you have because maybe you found 'lil old me - ha ha), you may have seen the Ice Bucket Challenge.

It's a cccold way to show your support, but the support is the main thing. Pete and Julie Frates are helping spread the word about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis aka ALS aka Lou Gehrig's Disease which is a monster disease and I have lost two people in my life to it.

Anyway, the Ice Bucket Challenge goes something like this:

  1. Someone challenges you (in this case, it was my funny cousin)
  2. You have 24 hours to complete the challenge or pay $100 to the ALS  Foundation
  3. Hopefully you'll do the challenge anyway AND pay the $100 since it's really the $$ that's gonna make the difference
  4. Fill a bucket of water and then add a bag (or 3 if you're Julian Edelman from my favorite Patriots football team) of ice, and DUMP it over your head!

Sounds fun doesn't it?

Well, I picked a park around the corner from my house and tried to get people to stand with me. They just all thought that I was some crazy lady and stayed far, far away. All but my new friend, Betsy, who I met at the park this morning, (and my daughter Charlotte). Once I poured the bucket over my head, THEN people asked what I was doing, what it was for blah, blah, blah. At least I was able to share the story about ALS and the Frates and #TeamFrateTrain and everyone who's fighting this battle. So, for that reason (among many others), I'm glad to make a complete fool of myself in a public park, supermodel body and all (totally kidding about the supermodel thing - I'm quite horrified to have my picture taken).

The cool thing about this type of philanthropy (hence why this is under the "bliss" section of the blog), is that it's interactive and all ages can do it, and people learn that giving is rewarding in itself. The Frates also have gear for sale to help their cause.

Here's the video of my ice bucket challenge, replete with my husband's voice wondering if the camera's on - ha ha

So GO FOR IT!! I challenge you all. You can make a difference and have fun doing it! Cheers!
